Located on the beachfront, Cafe Encounter is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast or lunch before or after one of our exciting dolphin or albatross tours, or to savor coffee and snacks throughout the day. The outdoor courtyard is a spacious and picturesque place to relax and unwind enjoying the spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the magnificent Seaward Kaikoura Mountain range.
Our menu is simple and delicious with options catering to all tastes and dietary requirements. From our signatory seafood chowder and Encounter Benedict, to a wide selection of cabinet items and muffins and scones, baked fresh each day. A selection of hot items can be found in the pie warmer, including our delicious Encounter Pies and we even have a kids menu.
With a skilled team led by Peter Morrison, originally from Ireland, but now regarded as a local, our experience, passion and creative flair ensures an exciting menu of delicious fare.

You will find the café at 96 Esplanade on the beachfront, inside the tour operation complex. We have plenty of parking on site or along the Esplanade close by. Our has coffee supplied by Ozone Coffee and is fully licensed offering a range of beers and wine, including locally sourced options.
